July 28 Life PartnerI read, by accident, the Baptist wedding vow, "
I, take thee, to be my husband, and before God and these witnesses I
promise to be a faithful and true wife." " With this ring I thee wed, and
all my worldly goods I thee endow. In
sickness and in health, in poverty or in wealth, 'til death do us
part." Somehow, I found it, for the first time, so freakingly moving. Such a traditional and widely used wedding vow. So easy to cite. Yet, so difficult to guard. Mom said don't let adrenaline blind you and
memories drag you back. Think thoroughly before listing down all his
short-comings. Then ask yourself: are you sure you can tolerate all
these in all circumstances? are you sure you won't be carried away by
your pride and ego? are you sure you hate hurting him more than
hurting yourself and love pleasing him more than making yourself
comfortable? are you sure you could resist all temptation and stay
loyal to him, in sickness and in health, in poverty or in wealth, for a
life time?... So It's not all about courage afterall, this getting married stuff. It is about you discovering you can stand losing everyone but him. It is about making a promise and willing to keep to it. It is about erasing any single trace of vanity of yours and still finding him attractive. It is about disregarding how other people look at him because you simply trust him the most. It is about believing that together with him, happy occasions will come as often as the morning. It is about, although difficult times will come as often as the night, you are somehow still look forward to living through it as long as you have him... Comments (3)
